Castellana Grotte: holidays in Puglia

Castellana Grotte, one of the most important and visited tourist destination of Apulia, is about 35 Kms far from Ostuni.
Castellana Grotte, is ml 290 on the level of the sea, and it is famous for the beauty of the near caves.
The caves of Castellana give life to the more important Italian speleological assemblage.
They can be found 2Kms from the inhabited centre and they contitute one of the principal tourist destinations of Apulia.
Discovered by speleologist Franco Anelli, the Caves still today, even though known and visited, solicit the taste of the adventure, exalted by the simbolic names of the places:

  • The Black Cave;
  • The Cavern of the Precipice;
  • The corridor of the angel;
  • The little cave of the crib;
  • The White Cave;
  • The Crystals Little pond;

After kilometres of runs between stalactites and stalagmites, the world of the crystals it will be hardly forget.

But we do not have to forget that we are in a territory rich in caves among which we remember:
caves basiliane of St. Biagio, in the near city of St. Vito of the Normann with 1100 frescos.
Caves of Montevicoli, rich of stalactites and stalagmites.
Sea caves between Peschici and Mattinata: Red, Broken down, Bell, Warm, Emerald, Of the Snake.
Cave del Bue Marino (of the Sea Ox) in the Tremiti Islands.
Cave of the Mura in Monopoli.
